Welcome news from Friends of the Earth in Perth. Read their message!
"As we approach another winter with our energy bills rising, fossil fuel companies are raking in huge profits by exploiting our basic needs. We need a just transition to clean energy, and we can’t rely on these companies to deliver that for us. Across Scotland, there are people coming together to stop the expansion of the fossil fuel industry, as well as connecting this with a whole host of other struggles such as fuel poverty, energy colonialism and more.
Come along to Perth for an afternoon of collective learning, planning and connecting, with delicious food and a ceilidh in the evening. We will get up to speed on some of the key campaigns that are taking action to resist the fossil fuel industry in Scotland and beyond, and look ahead to how we can strengthen our movement as well as those that are interconnected, so that we can work together over the coming months.
We’ll hear from people involved in stopping new gas at Peterhead, get an update from the campaign to halt the huge Rosebank oil field and also the workers fighting for a just transition at the Grangemouth oil refinery - to name a few!
This is a free event with food provided by Rascals Vegan Cafe. The venue has step-free access. We highly encourage travelling by public transport to get to the event, and we can help cover travel costs if that is a barrier to you attending.
Children are welcome to come to the event, but childcare is not provided so you will be responsible for your child at all times. We will provide some climate-themed activities to keep them occupied! You are also welcome to drop in and out of the event as you please."
