About the event
Forty years after Live Aid catapulted the world to awareness and horror at widespread famine, now attributed to war as well as drought, Sarah Boyack MSP will host an evening to explore what has changed since, for better and for worse. The topic is the escalation of atrocity crimes, in particular starvation and conflict-related sexual violence. A screening of archive and contemporary film clips and reportage from the front lines are included.
In July 2025, an independent Standing Group was set up in the house of Commons, chaired by Baroness Helena Kennedy KC, the Glasgow-born human rights champion. The Standing Group aims to fill the gap in the UK’s policy architecture for atrocity prevention. What might Scotland contribute?
